Baccala Ranch

Location

This 6370 acre ranch is located in the foot hills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range on the east side of the Sacramento Valley. The Historical Victorian town of Red Bluff is approximately 25 miles to the north. Red Bluff, with the Sacramento River flowing through, is agriculturally oriented and the home of several nationally known western events. Just a few miles to the south the college town of Chico is known for its cultural events, fine dining and major shopping. Chico also has a jet airport and commercial airline service.

Demographics

The Sacramento Valley climate provides for ample winter rainfall and moderate temperatures. Summers are clear with little rain fall and very warm weather. The ranch elevation varies from a low of 250’ to a high of 3200’. The elevation basically goes from the valley floor to mountain conditions and vegetation. There are approximately 200 acres of timber land near the upper area of the ranch. The historical use has been winter grazing for cattle. This grazing operation is run from mid November to mid May when the cattle are trucked to irrigated summer pastures. The area of the Baccala is predominant large ranches with mostly old ownerships passed through several generations.

Improvements

There is a very comfortable newer ranch home, placed in a nice setting. You can view your Ponderosa and wildlife from the large picture windows. There is also a 1000 s/f guest house and hay barn with a tack room. The improvements are all on alternative energy sources. The Baccala family has been on this ranch for over 100 years

Recreational

The recreation aspect of this ranch is superb. The deer hunting is notable. These deer are blacktail genetics with outstanding bucks killed every year. Quail and turkey are available in good numbers. Year round Pine Creek is good fishing for the native trout.

Facilities

There are three self contained hunting cabins in the upper elevations for the family and guests to enjoy. The upper boundary of the ranch adjoins Lassen National Forest.
